One morning in March 2013 I buy congee at my favorite congee place near the subway stop. The lovely woman selling the congee says:
“You know, you and your boyfriend can be lucky that you can be together like this and aren’t married yet. Once you’re married, you’ll have kids and then you’re not free to go wherever you want to go.”
It seems out-of-place to tell her that we’re going to get married soon and before I can reply anything else, another customer orders congee and I pay and leave for the subway that will take me to work.
Has anyone ever said something similar to you? How did you feel about it?
